I recently had the joy of being interviewed by the incredible Nina of the I Do Wedding Marketing podcast. I’m an avid podcast consumer, but this was my very first podcast guest feature! It was such a refreshing and insightful conversation all about email and how to market your wedding business.
Nina is the brilliant and bubbly founder of I Do Wedding Marketing, a brand and podcast dedicated to helping wedding vendors show up confidently online. With a specialty in bridal marketing and a knack for turning dry content into engaging storytelling, Nina is your go-to guide for making marketing feel approachable and fun. If you haven’t checked out her Instagram page, follow along here!
Nina shows bridal pros that visibility doesn’t have to be intimidating, and teaches you how to market your wedding business authentically across platforms (especially Instagram and TikTok).

Let’s dive into some of the questions Nina asked me about email marketing for service businesses:
A: I accidentally fell into email marketing—truly! I took a marketing internship during my sophomore year of college where one of my tasks was sending a monthly newsletter through Bronto (a now-extinct ESP). That led to another internship solely focused on email marketing where I developed a love for strategy and storytelling. After spending three years in the agency world after college, I was ready to go back to my roots. Throughout my career, I’ve found that email, more than any other platform, offers a direct and personal connection to your audience.
A: Social media often gets the spotlight, but email is where conversions happen. It’s low-pressure yet high-impact—perfect for staying top-of-mind, building authority, and driving both referrals and repeat business.
📝 Think of your email list as a curated community. Social is your storefront window; email is your invitation inside.
A common myth? “Why start a list when wedding clients are one-and-done?” But here’s the truth: You’re not done after “I do.” Email allows you to continue conversations, offer referral incentives, and market additional services like anniversaries, portraits, and events. It might seem like the wedding industry has almost 100% client turnover, but I often see past clients become the best future clients.
A: Don’t overthink it—you can start to market your wedding business with one email! You just have to send it😉 Even if it’s from Gmail, reconnecting authentically is better than perfection. Long term, I recommend Flodesk for its ease and beauty (and as a partner, I offer 50% off your first year here).

A: Start with the FAQs you already answer every day:
Answer those questions in a high-value, easily digestible format, and you’ll grow your list in no time.
A: How often to send email marketing can vary between weekly, monthly, or quarterly sending strategies. Depending on your audience, it’s not always about the frequency of email marketing. Consistency is what matters most when you’re building a list! Email marketing is like a relationship: nurture it at your pace, but stay present.
A: Start with value. If subscribers opted in for a freebie, deliver that in your first email. Follow it up with some questions that dig into why they’re on your list. Sending a poll to gauge what users are interested in helps auto-segment subscribers, informs your sending, and gives readers some buy-in so it feels like a give-and-take interaction.
Remember: You’re here to market your wedding business, but users are there for inspiration, education, and connection. Always encourage replies early on in your welcome sequence! Sprinkle in some personal storytelling, client success stories, and an introduction to who you are and why your work matters.
A: Inspire your readers with stories and photos from real weddings you’ve worked on. Showcase your attention to detail and commitment to creating unforgettable moments. And if you pursue publication features, share them! Couples love seeing themselves in the spotlight. You can subtly market your wedding business while delivering high-value content that your clients are excited to receive!
Kalviyo, Constant Contact, Brevo, and MailChimp are some popular platforms among small business owners. Flodesk is one of the best email marketing service providers and my go-to for small business owners and creatives. You can’t beat the flat-rate pricing, stunning design, and super user-friendly features.
📌 I love to compare options on G2.com before committing to new software.
A: Segment your audience (this is key!) and think long-term. Send a re-engagement email to non-openers or people who haven’t interacted with you in a while. Offer milestone sessions, referral perks, or family event services. Just because their wedding is over doesn’t mean the relationship has to end.
A: I typically start my day with a Pure Barre workout, breakfast, waking up my dog, and some reading or devotional time. It’s my quiet anchor before the buzz of the workday!
A: I love webinars, masterclasses, podcasts (of course!), and books. I’m always reading blogs and learning from my favorite YouTubers. One book I highly recommend? Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller—a total game changer for clear communication.
